Product Overview

The Automatic Flanging and Beading Forming Machine is a critical piece of equipment in the production lines for metal packaging containers and cylindrical products. Integrating the core functions of flanging and beading, it performs the dual tasks of forming end flanges and rolling reinforcing ribs on the bodies of various metal cylinders—such as steel drums, food cans, chemical drums, and ventilation ducts.

In standardized production lines, this machine is typically positioned between the seam welder and the seamer; it serves as the key unit for processing the ends of welded bodies into rounded flanges and rolling in reinforcing ribs. The flanging process prepares the ends for subsequent lid seaming, while the beading process enhances the structural rigidity and deformation resistance of the drum body—making both operations indispensable. Traditional manufacturing methods treat flanging and beading as separate processes requiring two machines and two rounds of loading and unloading; this not only consumes excessive workshop space but also increases the risk of damage during workpiece transfer. By integrating these two operations into a single clamping and forming cycle, this machine fundamentally optimizes production throughput and represents the technological evolution of metal forming equipment.

Core Structural Components

1. Mechanical Structure

Machine Frame and Bed: The machine features a high-rigidity welded structure that has undergone aging treatment to eliminate internal stress, ensuring dimensional stability during long-term, high-load operation. The bed's guideways are induction-hardened and precision-ground to guarantee guidance accuracy and durability for moving parts.

Flanging System: Composed of an upper forming die, flanging rollers, and a positioning mechanism. The upper die utilizes a multi-station design, allowing for automatic adjustment of the flanging position based on barrel height via a "one-touch" setting. The flanging dies undergo special processing for an exceptionally long service life, ensuring a smooth, burr-free flanged edge.

Rib-Forming System: Composed of rib-forming dies, a lifting platform, and extrusion rollers. A servo-driven lifting platform ensures precise control over rib height. The system supports intelligent switching between V-ribs and W-ribs, with rib spacing, quantity, and depth all adjustable via the touchscreen.

Conveying and Clamping System: Equipped with a rapid-feed conveyor and an automatic clamping mechanism to achieve automatic workpiece positioning and securing, thereby reducing operator labor intensity.

2. Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems

The hydraulic system provides the primary power output for flanging and rib-forming, with a rated pressure of up to 50 MPa. It is equipped with precision pressure and flow control valves, allowing for flexible adjustment of forming parameters based on workpiece material and thickness. ISO VG 68 hydraulic oil is recommended; tank capacity varies by machine model.

The pneumatic system handles auxiliary functions such as workpiece positioning, clamping, and air purging, operating within a pressure range of 0.3–0.6 MPa.

3. Electrical Control System

Utilizes a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) combined with an HMI (Human-Machine Interface) touchscreen to achieve fully automatic cycle control. Key functions include:

• One-touch setting of flanging/rib-forming position parameters

• Storage and recall of multiple process parameter sets

• Manual/Automatic mode switching

• Fault self-diagnosis and alarm notifications

• Production counting and operational status monitoring

Operating Principles and Process Flow

1. Forming Principles

Flanging Process: The cylinder wall at one or both ends of the drum body is folded outward or inward via rolling or extrusion to form a flange with a specific angle and width. The resulting flanged edge facilitates interlocking and sealing with the drum lid, serving as a prerequisite for the airtight sealing of steel drums and metal cans.

Ribbing (Beading) Process: Annular reinforcing ribs (V-shaped or W-shaped) are rolled into the drum body at predetermined locations via radial expansion. These ribs significantly enhance the drum's hoop rigidity and axial compressive strength, preventing deformation during stacking and transportation.

2. Work Cycle Flow

(I) Pre-start Preparation

1. Check power supply, air supply, hydraulic oil level, and lubrication points.

2. Clear metal chips and debris from the worktable, molds, and rollers.

3. Verify the integrity of safety doors, emergency stop buttons, and protective guards.

4. Install the appropriate upper/lower molds and rollers based on the workpiece diameter and wall thickness.

5. Perform manual inching to ensure moving parts operate without jamming or abnormal noise.

(II) Parameter Setting

Access the parameter setting interface via the touchscreen to configure:

• Flange depth/width

• Rib position/height

• Rotation speed, feed rate, and dwell time

• Sequencing for flanging and ribbing operations

Save the program and switch to manual mode for debugging.

(III) Manual Debugging (Required for the first workpiece)

1. Start the power supply and hydraulic/pneumatic pumps; wait for pressure to stabilize.

2. Manual inching sequence: Upper mold descends → Workpiece positioning → Clamping → Flanging roller feed → Flange forming → Roller retraction.

3. Ribbing mechanism feed → Rib forming → Retraction → Unclamping → Upper mold rises.

4. Remove the first workpiece; measure flange dimensions, roundness, and uniformity; check rib depth and position; and verify the absence of cracks or wrinkles.

5. Fine-tune parameters until specifications are met.

(IV) Automatic Production

Switch to automatic mode after confirming that parameters are correct. The operator places the workpiece into the positioning fixture and presses the start button; the equipment then automatically executes the following sequence:

Automatic feeding/positioning → Clamping → Flanging → Rib forming → Unclamping → Unloading/Ejection

During mass production, it is recommended to spot-check dimensions and appearance every 10–20 pieces, promptly clear away metal chips, and inspect the tooling for wear.

(V) Shutdown and Maintenance

Press the stop button; once all mechanisms have returned to their home positions and the motors have stopped, turn off the power supply and the air/hydraulic pump. Clean the worktable and tooling, apply lubricant to rollers, guide rails, and bearings, and fill out the equipment operation log.

Key Features and Core Advantages
